Celebrating Excellence: Nagen Saikia’s Heartwarming Triumph at Dhrupadi Axomiya Bhasha Bota

The upcoming Guwahati Literature Festival (GLF) 2024, taking place from November 8 to November 10 at the NEF Campus in Saukuchi, will celebrate the illustrious career of Assamese writer and former Axam Xahitya Xabha president, Dr. Nagen Saikia. He will be honored with the Dhrupadi Axamiya Bhasha Award 2024 for his significant contributions to Assamese literature and language promotion. This year’s festival carries added significance due to the recent recognition of Assamese as a classical language in India.

Kicking off the festival is a panel discussion titled “Classical Status to Assamese and Other Indian Languages: What Follows Next?” Esteemed panelists include Hyderabad’s Prof. N. Gopi, a noted Telugu poet; Assamese representative Dr. Kuladhar Saikia; Prof. Bishnu Charan Dash for Odia; and Bangla representative Ayesa Khatun from Kolkata. The discussion will be moderated by Sattyakee D’com Bhuyan. The festival will feature an inaugural address by Prof. Gopi and a keynote speech by eminent Assamese novelist Rita Chowdhury.
