Shocking: Assam Court Orders FIR Against Nalbari DC Amid Allegations of Junior Officer Harassment
The Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court has instructed Nalbari police to file a First Information Report (FIR) against District Commissioner Varnali Deka following allegations of harassment by suspended Assam Civil Service officer Arpana Sarmah. Sarmah submitted her complaint on May 8, 2024, accusing DC Deka of mental harassment and inappropriate behavior, claiming misuse of authority.
The incident reportedly occurred on May 7, 2024, when Sarmah, the circle officer of the Paschim Nalbari Revenue Circle, was tasked with overseeing operations at the issue and receipt counter of the 40-Tihu Legislative Assembly Constituency. Sarmah claims that DC Deka reprimanded her for failing to ensure timely transfer of materials by assigned laborers, which led to increasingly hostile behavior from the commissioner.
Feeling threatened, Sarmah attempted to document the interaction as evidence of verbal abuse and ongoing harassment before seeking refuge and reporting the incident at Nalbari Police Station.
