Tragic Collapse: Devastating Loss as 3 Workers Perish at Bullet Train Site in Anand
In Gujarat’s Anand district, a tragic incident occurred on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor construction site in Vasad village on Tuesday evening, resulting in the death of three workers. Police Superintendent Gaurav Jasani reported the accident, initially attributed to the collapse of an under-construction bridge section. However, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) later clarified that a temporary steel and concrete structure for well foundation work near the Mahi River collapsed.
Rescue teams used cranes and excavators to save workers trapped under the debris. While one labourer was successfully rescued and is recovering in the hospital, three others lost their lives. Efforts by local authorities to ensure no one else was trapped continued, with community support aiding the operation.
The collapsed structure was part of the ambitious 508-kilometer bullet train project, designed to cut travel time between Ahmedabad and Mumbai to approximately three hours. The project’s safety concerns come under scrutiny following the incident, amid ongoing rescue and site clearing operations.
In a separate incident in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, a 29-year-old man named Javvad died after being trapped beneath wall debris. Missing for two days, his body was discovered in a drain by the BHEL building. Local police indicated that his death might be linked to drug use, as he frequented the area for such activities. Relatives claimed he attempted to squeeze through an iron railing, causing the wall to collapse.
As investigations into both incidents proceed, questions regarding construction safety and regulatory compliance arise, emphasizing the need for stringent safety measures on high-risk projects.
