Triumphant Victory: Himanta Biswa Sarma Celebrates Overwhelming Success in Assam Bypolls!
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed strong confidence in his party’s success in upcoming by-elections, predicting assured victories in four out of five contested constituencies. Addressing reporters, Sarma highlighted enthusiastic voter response and a robust campaign strategy. He acknowledged a competitive race in one constituency but remained hopeful of victory there as well, particularly noting a 30,000-vote lead in Dholai.
Meanwhile, controversy arose as Assam BJP Minister Pijush Hazarika accused the Congress candidate in Behali of allegedly paying Rs 2 crore for an election ticket. Hazarika speculated these funds were directed to senior party leaders in Jorhat and Alwar, Rajasthan, which he argued could alienate grassroots Congress supporters.
Despite these claims, AICC General Secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh justified the nomination of Jayanta Bora, a former BJP member, from Behali to maintain electoral viability. Singh asserted that Congress would not compromise on its strategy, implying Bora’s candidacy is aligned with their electoral goals.
As candidate filing concluded, 38 nominees emerged for the five constituencies facing by-elections on November 13: Behali, Dholai, Samaguri, Bongaigaon, and Sidli. The Congress has fielded candidates for all five, including Tanzil Hussain in Samaguri and Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha in Dholai. New alliances see the Asom Gana Parishad presenting Diptimoyee Choudhury in Bongaigaon, amidst internal discord, and the United People’s Party Liberal nominating Nirmal Kumar Brahma for Sidli.
Assam’s political landscape intensifies as multiple parties vie for influence in these crucial by-elections. The stakes are high, and the outcomes will be pivotal in shaping Assam’s political future.
