Thrilling Opportunity Awaits: Meghalaya U-16 Cricket Selection Trials Set for November 14-17
The Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) has narrowed down its list to 27 young cricketers for the final selection trials of its Under-16 team, which will compete in the BCCI’s prestigious Vijay Merchant Trophy for the 2024-25 domestic season. The trials, scheduled to take place in Shillong from November 14 to 17, will be instrumental in forming the squad that represents the state. Players are required to report by 7:30 am on the first day of the trials.
Upon completion of the trials, the MCA will finalize a team of 15 players, supplemented by a few standby players. The selected squad will then partake in an intensive training camp from November 18 to December 2 in Nongkhrah, Ri-Bhoi, to thoroughly prepare for the competition.
The 27 players earned their spot in the trials by passing the mandatory TW-3 age verification test. Of these, 21 players qualified this month, while six others retained their eligibility from the previous season’s verification process. The shortlisted young talents include Mannan Surana, Krishiv Chaudhary, Raunak Srivastava, and several others, each eager to showcase their skills and secure a final team spot.
Heading the support staff are head coach Sengam G Momin and assistant coach Shankar Newar, alongside physio Karma Sangma and trainer Santosh Ram. Their guidance will be pivotal as the players hone their abilities and tactics ahead of the tournament.
This final selection phase is a critical step for the Meghalaya U-16 squad as it gears up to compete on a national platform in the Vijay Merchant Trophy. The rigorous selection process and ensuing camp highlight the commitment to forge a formidable team ready to make its mark in the upcoming cricket season.
