Kushwaha Shivpujan Mehta, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate for the Hussainabad assembly seat in Jharkhand, has filed a complaint against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The complaint, lodged with the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Palamu district, accuses Sarma of attempting to disrupt communal harmony. This legal move comes in the run-up to the assembly polls scheduled for November 13.

Mehta’s advocate, Sanjay Kumar Akela, confirmed that the case would be heard on November 16. The controversy stems from Sarma’s remarks at an election rally in Hussainabad on October 23. During the rally, Sarma promised that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the upcoming elections, Hussainabad, currently a sub-division in the Palamu district, will be upgraded to district status and potentially renamed after Lord Ram or Krishna. Sarma, who is also BJP’s co-incharge for Jharkhand elections, was campaigning in support of BJP candidate Kamlesh Kumar Singh.

Mehta’s complaint claims Sarma’s statements were deliberately provocative, seeking to inflame communal tensions in the region. The political atmosphere in Hussainabad is tense, with multiple candidates vying for electoral success. This case highlights the heightened sensitivities and strategic rhetoric employed by political figures as they strive to galvanize voter support in a fiercely contested election cycle.
