Unbelievable Value: Experience a Week of Luxury for Just $1,500!
White sands, clear turquoise waters, and lush swaying trees might evoke images of the Maldives, but these were the highlights of a recent trip to Italy’s Sardinia. Known as the “Maldives of Europe,” Sardinia boasts stunning beaches, including two on “The World’s 50 Best Beaches” 2024 list. While its Costa Smeralda area is famed for luxury, with brands like Belmond and LVMH opening new hotels, a visit to Sardinia needn’t break the bank.
Traveling in the more affordable fall season, I managed a week-long trip from London for just $1,500. Opting for mid-range accommodations, I stayed at Neilson’s Baia dei Mori Beach Club, a resort offering daily meals and numerous activities like tennis and yoga.
The trip combined relaxation and adventure, starting with yoga and leading into bike rides and a paddleboarding “safari.” Dining outside the resort delivered affordable flavors, from hearty Sardinian pasta to tempting pizzas.
Exploring further, we ventured to the Gulf of Orosei and the breathtaking Gennargentu National Park, embracing Sardinia’s diverse landscapes from serene beaches to climber-favored cliffs.
Sardinia is mindful of overtourism, setting visitor limits on popular beaches to preserve its natural beauty. My resort, designed with minimal environmental impact, ensured a tranquil getaway experience. Overall, it was the perfect off-season escape, offering all the allure of a high-end destination at a fraction of the cost.
