Unraveling the DB Stock Scam: Suspect Deepankar Barman’s Dramatic Transfer to Guwahati Sparks Hope for Justice
Assam News – Breaking News: Guwahati’s DB Share Market Scam Mastermind Nabbed
In a significant breakthrough in one of Assam’s largest financial scandals, Dipankar Barman, the prime accused in the DB share market scam, was extradited under tight security from Goa to Guwahati on Tuesday, October 29. His arrest marks a critical step for the investigative agencies delving into this high-profile case that has sent ripples through Assam’s investment community.
Barman arrived at Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Indigo flight 6E6882, flanked by police. He was immediately taken to Panbazar Police Station for rigorous questioning regarding his alleged role in the massive scam, which defrauded investors of approximately Rs 7,000 crore through an intricate online trading con.
His capture in Goa on Sunday was the conclusion of an extensive manhunt led by ACP Amit Mahato from Guwahati’s Panbazar division. This development is set to yield crucial insights into the operational mechanics of the fraudulent trading scheme and its devastating impact on investors.
The scandal surfaced in late August when complaints from investors about halted returns and a shuttered office began to surface. Following this, a police raid on Barman’s Goa residence uncovered Rs 27 lakh in cash.
Authorities have already arrested over 65 individuals linked to similar fraudulent activities, including Barman’s parents and two Assamese actors, Sumi Borah and Monalisa Das, alongside Barman’s assistant and Borah’s husband, photographer Tarkik Borah. These arrests highlight the extensive network behind this scam, which primarily involved young men and women in their 20s enticing investors with promises of high returns.
Given the magnitude and complexity of the case, the Assam government has transferred the investigation of 41 related cases to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This strategic move aims to bring further clarity and justice to the numerous victims of this widespread deceit.
