Assam Police Triumph: Mastermind Dipankar Barman Behind Online Trading Scam Boldly Captured in Goa
Guwahati: Assam Police is set to bring alleged online trading fraudster Dipankar Barman to Guwahati on Tuesday. Barman was captured in Goa after evading law enforcement for over two months. Guwahati Police Commissioner Diganta Barah revealed that officers had been in Goa for nearly two weeks, having tracked Barman’s whereabouts through technical means. Barman fled Assam just before the first case against him was filed on August 22. Although the investigation shifted to the CBI, he was arrested under a new case based on a separate allegation.
Barman had been a fugitive since August 18, prompting police to perform detailed technical analysis to pinpoint his location in Goa. However, his frequent changes of accommodation and ceasing use of technology made his capture challenging. The police’s efforts to gather intelligence paid off, leading them to track his financial movements and position him in a specific area. A strategic operation resulted in his arrest in Pernel, where officers discovered over Rs 27 lakh in cash, an Indian passport, and jewelry at his temporary residence. Commissioner Barah confirmed that Barman would undergo questioning upon arrival in Guwahati.
In related news, a fake visa racket was dismantled by Delhi Police in Surat, involving the arrest of six agents. Meanwhile, Guwahati and Dima Hasao have experienced a rise in dengue cases, prompting the opening of testing centers for early detection. Additionally, following a scuffle at a Rangoli-making event in Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi Police have heightened security, although no formal case has been registered yet. The incident has sparked calls from the VHP for strict action against the alleged disruptions.
