Milestone Partnership: PM Modi and Spanish Prez Forge Transformative MoUs on Trade, Culture & Defense, Elevating India-Spain Relations to a $10 Billion Triumph
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spain’s President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, engaged in significant discussions addressing a broad spectrum of bilateral issues, including trade, investment, IT, innovation, defense, security, and renewable energy. Global topics of mutual interest, notably the situation in Ukraine and developments in West Asia, were also part of their deliberations. The talks were held both at the bilateral level and with delegations in Vadodara, Gujarat.
During a media briefing in Vadodara, Tanmaya Lal, the Secretary (West) of the Ministry of External Affairs, announced the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements pertain to various fields such as rail transport, customs cooperation, financial mechanisms to boost investment, and cultural exchanges. An important highlight of the meeting is the planned celebration of the year 2026 as the Year of Culture, Tourism, and Artificial Intelligence, aiming to strengthen ties and foster collaboration in these areas.
Moreover, Lal revealed that the bilateral trade volume between India and Spain has reached an impressive 10 billion dollars. This economic partnership is further supported by the presence of approximately 240 Spanish companies operating within India, indicating a robust and growing economic relationship.
This engagement underscores the commitment of both nations to enhance cooperation across diverse sectors, reflecting a shared vision for mutual growth and stability. The comprehensive dialogue and partnerships signify a deepening of ties between India and Spain, promising a future of enriched exchanges and collaboration.
