Shocking Scandal: Senior Assistant Arrested for Brazen Bribery
Guwahati: In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in Assam apprehended Hirendra Choudhury, a senior assistant at the Kamalpur Revenue Circle in Kamrup district, for accepting a bribe to perform official duties. A formal complaint led to this arrest, where it was alleged that Choudhury demanded Rs. 3,000 as a bribe for processing land mutation work.
Unwilling to comply, the complainant reported the incident to the authorities, prompting swift action. A trap was meticulously set up by the vigilance team at the Kamalpur Revenue Circle office, where Choudhury was caught in the act, accepting Rs. 2,700 from the complainant. The bribe money was promptly recovered and seized in the presence of independent witnesses, ensuring the integrity of the operation.
Following the incident, sufficient evidence was amassed, leading to Choudhury’s arrest. A case has been registered at the ACB Police Station on October 28, 2024, under ACB P.S. Case No. 78/2024, in accordance with Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. Authorities have assured that necessary legal proceedings are underway to address this breach of public trust.
