Meet Parthib Gogoi: The Passionate Prodigy Poised to Become India’s Next Sunil Chhetri
Guwahati: The Indian Super League (ISL) has been a platform for emerging football talents in India, with several young players capturing the spotlight. Notably, NorthEast United FC’s 21-year-old forward Parthib Gogoi stands out for his exceptional skills, including impressive ball control and potent long-range shots. Gogoi has rapidly become a fan favorite, contributing significantly to his team’s success.
In the 2023-24 ISL season, Gogoi scored five goals and provided four assists, playing a vital role in helping NEUFC secure their first-ever silverware with a win in the Durand Cup 2024 against Mohun Bagan Super Giant. His performance in the final’s penalty shootout was particularly noteworthy.
With his recent brace against Jamshedpur FC, Gogoi has become the third-highest goal-scorer for NEUFC in the ISL, tallying ten goals. Only Bartholomew Ogbeche and Deshorn Brown have netted more for the club.
Gogoi’s remarkable achievements at a young age have earned him recognition as the player with the most ISL goals scored before the age of 22. His journey from a spectator to a key player for NEUFC has been inspiring, and head coach Juan Pedro Benali believes he has the potential to emulate Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri.
Signed with NEUFC until 2027, Gogoi feels a deep connection with the club, celebrating each moment on the field and expressing pride in his achievements, including his first professional goal against Mumbai City FC and his first senior hat-trick.
NEUFC emphasizes nurturing local talent from the northeastern states, with their scouting focusing on regional players. This season, they will host some matches in Shillong, Meghalaya, marking a significant step for the club.
Currently, NEUFC stands fifth in the ISL standings with eight points from six matches. The Highlanders are set to face Odisha FC on November 3 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.
