Shocking Revelation: Why Mohammed Shami Was Snubbed from India’s Test Squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has unveiled an 18-member Indian squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, starting November 22 in Perth. Noteworthy inclusions are Abhimanyu Easwaran, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Rana as new faces. The pace lineup appears strong with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj leading, complemented by Akash Deep, who has shown remarkable performances against England and Bangladesh. Prasidh Krishna rejoins the team post-rehabilitation for a stress fracture.
A major highlight is the omission of Mohammed Shami, who is recovering from ankle surgery. Although making progress, a recent knee issue has delayed his return. On his social media, Shami shared footage of his net bowling, hinting at readiness. Meanwhile, Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav is also out due to chronic groin problems, seeking long-term treatment at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
Harshit Rana and Nitish Rana, both medium-pace all-rounders, have earned their Test call-ups following impressive IPL and domestic outings. Washington Sundar, featuring in the spin department, took seven wickets in the first innings against New Zealand in Pune, securing his place. However, Axar Patel has been excluded.
The reserve list includes Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, and Khaleel Ahmed. Abhimanyu Easwaran, acknowledged for consistent domestic performances, joins as a third-choice opener alongside Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
India’s complete squad for the series comprises Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel (WK), R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, with reserves Mukesh Kumar, Navdeep Saini, and Khaleel Ahmed included.
