India’s Deputy Representative to the United Nations, R. Ravindra, reiterated India’s call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and emphasized the need for adherence to international law and humanitarian principles. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council’s Open Debate on the Middle East, Ravindra urged for unrestricted humanitarian access and the unconditional release of hostages. He outlined India’s position supporting a two-state solution featuring a sovereign Palestinian state alongside Israel, with attention to Israel’s security needs.

Ravindra highlighted India’s strong condemnation of the October 7 terror attacks on Israel and the ongoing loss of civilian lives in the Israel-Hamas conflict. He called for restraint and emphasized resolving the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. India’s long-standing developmental assistance to Palestine, totaling nearly USD 120 million, was also underscored, including a significant contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

Additionally, Ravindra appreciated efforts by countries like Qatar and Egypt in facilitating peace talks. He noted India’s participation at a senior level in the recent International High-Level Conference on urgent humanitarian response to Gaza, held in Jordan. Ravindra concluded by affirming India’s dedication to engaging with the region and fostering long-term peace and stability.

India’s developmental support includes an annual contribution of USD 5 million to UNRWA since 2018, with a recent disbursement of USD 2.5 million. India remains committed to sustaining peace efforts in West Asia, with a vision for stable and peaceful coexistence in the region.
