Major Victory: Meghalaya Police Arrest Assam Smugglers, Seize Illicit Heroin and Yaba Tablets in East Khasi Hills
Police in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, have intensified their crackdown on cross-border drug trafficking with two significant arrests recently. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) successfully apprehended two individuals from Assam’s Cachar district in separate operations, resulting in the seizure of substantial amounts of heroin and yaba tablets.
On October 21, officers nabbed 29-year-old Hanif Ahmed Laskar, who was found in possession of 196 yaba tablets. Laskar, hailing from Gobindapur Part-I in Cachar, was caught with synthetic drugs weighing more than 19 grams. This arrest underscores the proactive measures being taken by law enforcement against drug smuggling in the region.
Earlier, the ANTF captured 26-year-old Mastak Ahmed Mazumder at a checkpoint in Mawryngkneng. Mazumder, also from Cachar’s Gobindapur area, was carrying nearly 57 grams of heroin cleverly hidden in five soap boxes. These operations reflect the police force’s ongoing commitment to disrupting narcotics supply chains in India’s Northeast.
Both suspects were carrying mobile phones and identification documents in their backpacks at the time of their arrests. Authorities continue to underscore the importance of these apprehensions in the broader context of curbing drug trafficking across borders.
These successful interventions are part of the ANTF’s sustained efforts to dismantle drug networks operating in the region. The force works relentlessly in cooperation with local communities to detect and intercept drug shipments traversing the Northeast. The recent arrests mark crucial wins in their fight against the narcotics trade, reinforcing the commitment to safeguarding public health and security.
The police have reiterated their resolve to continue these efforts, highlighting the imperative of community collaboration and intelligence-sharing in combating the pervasive issue of drug trafficking. Through such actions, authorities aim to dismantle the infrastructure supporting narcotic distribution and ensure a safer environment for the populace.
