The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its list of campaigners for the forthcoming bye-election in the 56-Gambegre (ST) Legislative Assembly Constituency, Meghalaya. Aimed at enhancing its community engagement and voter outreach, the BJP has appointed key party leaders to lead the charge. Anil Antony, Rikman Momin, and AL Hek will drive the campaign efforts, supporting candidate Bernard Marak to secure voter backing by addressing critical local issues.
Additionally, leaders like Sambor Shullai, Sukhi Pariat, and David Kharsati will be pivotal in grassroots discussions, establishing a strong connection with the electorate. Anzie Sangma and Sewina Marak will also join the team to bolster the BJP’s influence in the area.
Bernard Marak, the BJP candidate, faces competition from Congress’ Jingjang M Marak for this Scheduled Tribe-reserved seat. The bye-election is essential for parties aiming to fortify their presence in Meghalaya’s tribal regions.
These bye-polls are part of a larger electoral effort encompassing 48 Assembly constituencies across 15 states, including Assam, Bihar, and West Bengal, among others. Scheduled for November 13, with vote counting on November 23, the event will occur in two phases, coinciding with Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections, as announced by the Election Commission of India on October 15.
