Transformative Leap: How Assam is Revolutionizing Public Service Delivery
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced a transformative shift in public service delivery, bringing over 400 citizen services, 219 business services, and 13 utility services directly to residents’ devices. This ambitious digital initiative has seen a remarkable 7.5 million applications submitted online, highlighting the state’s commitment to enhancing accessibility and efficiency in governance.
Sarma proudly shared the initiative’s success, with an 88% application disposal rate and strong citizen satisfaction levels. “In Assam, government services are at citizens’ fingertips,” he stated, underscoring the importance of efficient and transparent service delivery.
The Assam Governance and Service Delivery Transformation Initiative targets three key areas: strengthening public finance capabilities, optimizing government-to-citizen (G2C) and government-to-business (G2B) services, and enhancing data analytics. This results-driven approach has not only improved service access but exceeded initial expectations, particularly with digital submissions surpassing targets sevenfold.
Moreover, the project boasts a 78% timely delivery rate for service requests, with 87.5% of applications processed successfully. An online monitoring system has bolstered transparency, achieving a remarkable 95% satisfaction rate among respondents for grievances and appeals.
According to Sarma, this citizen-centric framework addresses service constraints and fosters a more responsive government. The Right to Public Services Act, amended in 2019, has been instrumental in facilitating these advancements, positioning Assam as a leader in public service innovation.
As the state continues its digital transformation, it sets a powerful example for enhancing the efficiency and transparency of government services, ensuring Assam remains at the forefront of public service delivery.
