Thrilling Conclusion: Red Shield Assam Badminton Tournament Ends with a Grand and Unforgettable Ceremony!
The second edition of the Red Shield Assam Badminton Tournament concluded triumphantly on October 21 at Hijuguri Stadium in Tinsukia with a grand closing ceremony featuring cultural and martial arts showcases, culminating in a vibrant band performance.
Emerging young athletes demonstrated exceptional prowess throughout the event. Notable victories included Noimikha Saikia winning the Under 15 Girls category and Hrishikesh Gogoi claiming the top spot in the Under 15 Boys category. In the Under 19 categories, Avikaa Borgohain and Produnya Bhuyan clinched victories in the girls’ and boys’ divisions, respectively. Each champion was awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000, while runners-up walked away with Rs 25,000.
The event was graced by Major General Sameer Sharan Kartikeya, Sena Medal, and General Officer Commanding of the Red Shield Division, who served as the chief guest. In his address, Major General Kartikeya lauded the tournament’s success and reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to supporting welfare and sports initiatives in Upper Assam. He emphasized these efforts as essential to community development, empowerment, and the maintenance of peace and security in the region.
The Major General also announced the forthcoming Capt. Jintu Gogoi Football Tournament scheduled for January 2025, aimed at showcasing the football talents in the area.
In his closing remarks, Major General Kartikeya expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts that made the tournament successful. He extended his thanks to the Assam Badminton Association, the Tinsukia Railway Division, the Tinsukia District Sports Association, and the Tinsukia Development Authority for their invaluable contributions.
