Exciting Milestone: Arunachal’s Inaugural State-Level Volleyball Championship Kicks Off in Itanagar!
Pani Taram, Koloriang MLA and Advisor to the PHED Minister, inaugurated Arunachal Pradesh’s first-ever state-level Volleyball Championship 2024 on October 20 at the Sports Resort in Itanagar. As the chief guest at the event, Taram praised the Arunachal Pradesh Volleyball Association (APVA) for reviving the championship after over a decade. He expressed hope for increased participation next year, emphasizing the state’s potential in sports and the positive impact on youth.
Taram highlighted the state government’s declaration of 2024 as the Year of Youth, urging young people to engage in sports as a healthier alternative to negative influences such as drug abuse. He pointed out the benefits of sports participation, including job reservations of 5 to 10 percent in various sectors like the police, which can provide a livelihood and social standing.
Addressing a memorandum regarding the construction of an indoor volleyball stadium in the capital complex and Papum Pare district, Taram promised that the proposal would receive serious consideration and assured support for promoting sports.
Former Minister and President of the Arunachal Olympic Association, Taba Tedir, served as the guest of honor. He commended the APVA’s efforts and pledged full support at both state and central levels. Tedir expressed optimism about reinstating the national-level volleyball championship, with involvement from the Sports Authority of India to facilitate participation. He encouraged the youth to balance academics and disciplined sporting activities to achieve success.
APVA President Nera Techi noted the challenges faced in organizing the championship after a 12-year gap. Despite hurdles and limited communication, ten district teams are participating in the current tournament, with hopes for broader participation next year. The championship commenced on October 20 and will conclude with the final match on October 25.
