Shocking Capture: Meghalaya BSF Heroically Busts Massive Apple Smuggling Operation Near International Border
In a significant operation near the international border in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, the Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended two Indian nationals reportedly involved in a major smuggling attempt. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, personnel from the 4th Battalion of the Meghalaya BSF intercepted two vehicles on the Dawki-Lynkhat road in the Pyrdwah bordering area. These vehicles, an Alto car and a Maruti van, were found loaded with 40 boxes of apples intended for illegal transport into Bangladesh.
The drivers, upon questioning, could not provide valid documentation for the apple consignment nor justify its carriage. Consequently, the detained individuals, along with the vehicles and the consignment, were handed over to Customs authorities at Pynursla for further investigation.
This operation underscores the vigilance of the BSF in thwarting cross-border smuggling activities. It follows another recent success, where BSF troops from the 172 Battalion in East Jaintia Hills disrupted an attempted smuggling operation along the India-Bangladesh border. The troops seized 980 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup, a contraband substance frequently smuggled into Bangladesh.
These incidents highlight the ongoing efforts of the BSF to curb illegal cross-border trade, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining the security and integrity of India’s borders.
