Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto, speaking at the Embraer Media Day 2022 in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil, revealed the company is exploring the market and new technologies for potentially developing a new jet. While Embraer competes with industry giants Airbus and Boeing, no definitive plans for a large narrow-body aircraft have been made. Instead, Embraer is concentrating on boosting sales of its regional aircraft, producing the E2 jet, and fulfilling customer commitments.
In Q3, Embraer delivered 16 commercial jets, a 5% increase over last year, and a total of 57 jets, including defense and business models, marking a 33% rise. The FAA’s recent approval of a freighter version of the E190 passenger-to-freighter converted jet is poised to bolster Embraer’s market presence. Gomes Neto cited this adaptability as a competitive edge, particularly as Airbus and Boeing struggle with production post-pandemic.
Despite abortive acquisition talks with Boeing, which resulted in a $150 million settlement for Embraer, the company faces supply chain challenges akin to its peers, particularly in sourcing engines and cabin components. Gomes Neto anticipates these issues might resolve by 2026.
