Breaking: Tamil Nadu Police Reveal Shocking Details to Supreme Court on Sadhguru’s Isha Yoga Centre Cases
The Tamil Nadu Police informed the Supreme Court about various cases related to the Isha Yoga Centre over the past years. Among them, the Alandurai Police Station, overseeing the area, has documented six missing person cases in 15 years; five are closed, while one remains under investigation. Additionally, seven suicide inquiry cases under Section 174 CrPC were reported, with two still pending due to incomplete forensic reports. The police also addressed the ongoing habeas corpus case involving two monk sisters, affirming their voluntary stay at the center and regular communication with their family. The monks reportedly expressed contentment in their current lifestyle and urged their parents not to defame the institution.
A report highlighted the demographics within the center, including 217 Brahmacharis, 2,455 volunteers, and numerous employees and guests. Meanwhile, a construction of a crematorium has faced legal challenges from a nearby property owner. An internal survey indicated a need for greater awareness regarding child rights among Isha students, while minor psychological concerns were noted. It was reported that the internal complaints committee under the POSH Act is inadequately functioning.
Several legal cases have emerged against the Isha Foundation members: a POCSO case against Dr. Saravanamoorthy for inappropriate conduct with students; a rape allegation involving a Delhi woman against another participant; and a criminal intimidation case against 15 members for alleged threats and property damage. The Supreme Court has transferred the habeas corpus petition from the High Court, restraining further police investigations into alleged land encroachment claims. The court requested a status report from the police by the next hearing. These developments form part of the case ISHA FOUNDATION Versus S. KAMARAJ AND ORS., documented under SLP(Crl) No. 13992/2024.
