Why Nithya Menen Prioritizes Substance Over Fame: Her Emotional Reflection on Choosing Scripts Post-Mission Mangal
Nithya Menen, a celebrated South Indian actress known for her work in Tamil and Malayalam cinema, continues to garner praise for her stellar performances. Among her notable films are “100 Days of Love,” “O Kadhal Kanmani,” “Magic Love,” “Mersal,” “Ustad Hotel,” and “Urumi.” Her recent success, the 2022 film “Thiruchitrambalam,” not only demonstrated her exceptional talent but also earned her the prestigious National Award. In “Thiruchitrambalam,” Menen shone as Shobana, winning both critical acclaim and the audience’s hearts.
Despite her success, Menen’s foray into Bollywood has been limited, with her debut film “Mission Mangal” in 2019 starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, and Sonakshi Sinha being her sole Hindi project. Speaking to BollywoodLife, Menen clarified that her absence from Hindi films isn’t due to a lack of offers but stems from her selective approach. She revealed that her criteria for choosing roles remain consistent across all languages. Rather than focusing on starring in lead or female-centric roles, she seeks characters and stories that are meaningful and substantial.
When asked about what she looks for in a role, Menen emphasized the importance of the story’s honesty and the filmmakers’ passion. She seeks roles that are pivotal to the narrative and collaborates with directors and writers who are genuinely excited to bring their stories to life.
In addition to her recent work in “Thiruchitrambalam,” Menen is teaming up once again with Dhanush for a new project titled “Idli Kadai,” creating anticipation amongst their fans.
