Rivian is embracing the Halloween spirit with new ‘car costumes’ for its electric vehicles, announced through a software update available shortly after midnight on October 18th. The update, requiring the 2024.39 version and the latest mobile app, transforms the screens of R1T and R1S models with themes from iconic ’80s TV shows and films. Among the new features are interfaces reminiscent of the Time Machine from “Back to the Future” and KITT from “Knight Rider,” complete with authentic sound effects. Additionally, a generalized “Haunted” theme brings a ghostly static TV screen and a dynamic choice of soundscapes and color themes. Notably, the exterior of Gen 2 vehicles will be adorned with KITT’s iconic red beam and reflect ambient colors from chosen themes, while Gen 1 models will miss out on some exterior features. In a playful twist, this update also turns Rivian’s vehicle displays into festive experiences, showing zombies and headless horsemen in place of pedestrians and cyclists, while adding crows, pumpkins, and green flames in Camp mode, along with unique 3D ‘spooky’ artwork in different drive modes.
