Unmasking Fake Tickets: The Shocking Truth Behind This Season’s Scalping Scandal
A recent ticket fraud involving Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Dil-Luminati Tour’ concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium has come to light, echoing the season’s widespread issue of ticket scalping. Following high-profile events like Coldplay’s concerts in Mumbai, a 29-year-old freelance event manager, Kaushik Raj, capitalized on the craze by selling counterfeit tickets to Dosanjh’s show. His fraudulent earnings funded the purchase of luxury items, including an Apple iPhone and Apple Watch, and lavish spending sprees in cities such as Bengaluru, Goa, and Mumbai. However, law enforcement swiftly caught up with him. Raj was apprehended at Nizamuddin railway station in Delhi, following a complaint from a Neb Sarai resident who was duped after purchasing fake tickets worth ₹4,76,870. The victim, eager to attend the concert, had acquired the tickets through a friend in Chandigarh. The fraud was uncovered when the victim attempted to verify the tickets with Paytm Insider, the concert’s authorized seller. Police investigations revealed that Raj operated by editing and selling fake tickets, deceiving additional victims from Chandigarh and West Bengal before going incommunicado. Raj, originally from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, was a college dropout who pursued freelancing in event management. He was arrested on Monday, putting an end to his fraudulent activities.
