Transformative Breakthrough: Uplifting 600 Nagaland Villages Under New Tribal Empowerment Scheme
Union Minister Jual Oram announced on Tuesday that 74 blocks and 608 villages in Nagaland are set to benefit from the recently launched ‘Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan’, a new initiative by the Centre aimed at enhancing the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities. This announcement came on the last day of Oram’s three-day visit to the northeastern state, which aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India.
The scheme, unveiled this month, is designed to bolster infrastructure and services in tribal-majority areas, especially those with a minimum of 50 percent tribal population. It will span 16 districts in Nagaland, and also extend its reach across 549 districts and 2,911 blocks in 30 states and Union territories, with a substantial budget of Rs 79,156 crore.
Oram underscored the mission’s holistic approach, which involves coordinated efforts among various government ministries. Key objectives include improving literacy rates, healthcare access, skill development, and infrastructure in the tribal regions to ensure sustainable growth and development.
During his visit, Oram also inaugurated two community halls in Dimapur, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to enhancing communal facilities in the region. This initiative reflects the broader agenda of fostering socio-economic development and infrastructure enhancement in tribal areas, marking a significant step toward realizing an inclusive growth strategy for India’s tribal population.
