Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh – The Kameng Culture and Heritage Museum, situated in Nyukmadung, West Kameng, is poised to open to the public. Designed as a cultural beacon of peace and unity, the museum stands as a testament to the deep-seated heritage of Arunachal Pradesh, often referred to as the “Land of Dawn Lit Mountains.” With roots in Indian civilization, noted in ancient texts like the Kalika Purana and the Mahabharat, Arunachal Pradesh is home to numerous historical monuments and archaeological sites. The museum is a collaborative initiative by the Indian Army under OPERATION SADBHAVANA, in synergy with the Government of India’s Vibrant Village Programme and the local community. This harmonious effort highlights the cultural linkages of various communities, displaying a wide range of historical, religious, archaeological, and ethnographic elements.
Curated professionally by the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation, and Museology, the facility features a state-of-the-art movie hall that illustrates Arunachal Pradesh’s cultural connections to India. It also includes a cafeteria and a children’s park for visitors’ enjoyment. The museum was made possible through the voluntary donation of ancestral land and 343 traditional artefacts by the local community.
The Kameng Culture and Heritage Museum is expected to draw global visitors, offering an immersive experience in the rich traditions and resilient spirit of Arunachal Pradesh. It stands as a proud symbol of the region’s identity, heritage, and pride, marking a transformative beginning for the area.
