Assam Triumphs with 14 Medals in National Weightlifting Championships! Unbelievable Victory Inspires All
Guwahati: Assam’s prowess in weightlifting was on full display at the IWLF Junior, Youth, and Senior National Weightlifting Championships held in Himachal Pradesh, with athletes Ditimoni Sonowal and Suditya Baruah earning accolades. Ditimoni clinched a gold medal in the women’s 64kg inter-state category by lifting a total of 210kg, with 92kg in snatch and 118kg in clean and jerk. Meanwhile, Suditya secured a silver medal in the men’s 89kg senior category. He lifted a total of 315kg, comprising 140kg in snatch and 175kg in clean and jerk, and also achieved gold in the overall inter-state category.
Assam’s impressive run culminated in winning 14 medals, including five gold, five silver, and four bronze. Other noteworthy performances included Sangeeta Sadanidhar, who took silver in the junior girls’ 76kg category by lifting 181kg, and youth competitor Chankya Bora, who earned a bronze medal with a total lift of 279kg. Furthermore, Bhawana Gogoi added to the medal tally with a bronze in the youth 59kg category, lifting a total of 166kg.
These achievements underscore Assam’s rising talent in the national weightlifting circuit, marking a significant milestone for the state in competitive sports.
