Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society Proudly Honors Journalist Pradeep Kumar Behera for His Remarkable Contributions
The Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS) recently paid tribute to its founding member and esteemed journalist, Pradeep Kumar Behera, during a ceremony at the Arunachal Press Club. Behera, who has dedicated a significant portion of his life to journalism in the state, is set to return to his homeland, Odisha. Established in 2006 by literary aficionados such as Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi, Mamang Dai, and Behera himself, APLS has championed literary pursuits under the guiding motto, ‘Start Writing, Keep Writing.’
APLS President Yeshe Dorjee Thongchi illuminated Behera’s substantial contributions to journalism, noting his arrival in Arunachal Pradesh in 1983 to work at Donyi-Polo Vidya Bhawan and his pivotal role in launching the weekly ‘Echo of Arunachal’ in 1988. Behera’s career highlights include editing several publications, mentoring emerging journalists, rejuvenating the APC, and holding influential roles across various organizations. Notably, he joined a national delegation accompanying former President Pratibha Patil on international visits in 2010 and conducted a significant interview with former President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
During the event, former Chief Minister Prem Khandu Thungan lauded Behera as a resilient figure who secured the trust of Arunachal’s diverse communities. Thungan also highlighted Behera’s part in establishing the IGNOU center in the state. Capital DC Talo Potom, serving as the guest of honor, praised Behera’s efforts with the Tani Jagriti Foundation and his deep connections with local tribes.
Mamang Dai and other dignitaries, including Dr. M Q Khan and IPR Secretary Nyali Ete, celebrated Behera’s multidimensional contributions to literature and journalism. APLS General Secretary Mukul Pathak commended Behera’s unwavering commitment to social service and the journalistic profession. In his poignant farewell, Behera called on media professionals to faithfully represent Arunachal Pradesh, encouraging tourism and reciting a poem he composed, signaling his enduring spiritual bond with the state.
