Shocking Turn in Pune Porsche Tragedy: Minor Granted Bail as Juvenile Justice Board Faces Dramatic Shake-Up
Two members of Pune’s Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) have been dismissed by the Maharashtra Government due to their controversial decision to grant bail to a juvenile involved in a fatal crash. The 17-year-old, allegedly under the influence, drove a Porsche that resulted in the deaths of two IT professionals in May in Pune. The case attracted national outrage after one of the JJB members, L.N. Danwade, approved bail on terms criticized as lenient. An investigation by the State Women and Child Development Department found “procedural lapses, misconduct, and non-compliance with norms” involving members L.N. Danwade and Kavita Thorat. Consequently, their services were terminated following the panel’s recommendations. The decision underscored the misuse of power under the Juvenile Justice Act, as highlighted by WCD Department Commissioner Prashant Narnavare. The accused’s bail conditions included merely writing a short essay on road safety, sparking significant public controversy.
