Shocking Discovery in Digboi: Excise and Police Uncover Illicit Liquor Haul
Excise department personnel from the Digboi and Margherita Circles, assisted by armed forces from the Digboi police station, carried out significant raids in the Digboi area of Tinsukia district. These operations unfolded just a day before the Durga Puja celebrations, targeting the localities of Bengenabari, Rongsongi, and Gopanari. During the raids, authorities uncovered four instances of illegal activities, leading to the confiscation and destruction of 2,400 litres of fermented wash, four distillation apparatus sets, and 60 litres of illicit liquor. These efforts underscore the commitment to curbing illegal activities in the region, particularly ahead of the festive season.
In a related development, Assam Police have intensified their anti-drug operations, recovering illicit substances valued at over Rs 8 crore. This crackdown is part of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s pledge to take strict measures against drug-related crimes. Acting on credible intelligence, the Biswanath Police successfully intercepted a vehicle at a Naka Point on National Highway 15, seizing 314 kilograms of Ganja estimated to be worth Rs 1.57 crore. This operation highlights the police’s ongoing dedication to combating drug trafficking in the region.
Both operations reflect the authorities’ proactive stance to ensure safety and legality prevail, particularly during important cultural celebrations. The simultaneous actions show a unified front against unlawful activities, aiming to foster a safer environment for the community during festive times. These decisive measures by both the excise department and Assam Police exemplify a broader commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting the public from the threats posed by illegal liquor and drugs.
