Guwahati, Assam: In a significant move towards enhancing agricultural productivity and supporting farmers, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the distribution of Soil Health Cards (SHC) to over four lakh farmers across the state on Monday. During an official event in Guwahati, CM Sarma announced the government’s ambitious plan to distribute approximately 10 lakh SHCs, with four lakh cards ready for immediate distribution.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to empowering farmers, CM Sarma stated, “Our Krishak bandhus are the anchors in our mission of Atmanirbhar Assam.” He unveiled several initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural practices, from expanding SHC distribution to offering incentives for paddy transportation.
To support these efforts, the number of soil quality testing laboratories in Assam has been increased from five to twenty-six, enhancing the state’s capability to monitor and improve soil health. In addition to distributing SHCs, CM Sarma also inaugurated the distribution of agricultural machinery and the establishment of agriculture knowledge centres.
Additionally, the chief minister, alongside Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, announced plans to create 816 village agriculture equipment banks, a significant increase from the current 80. Complementing this, the government will also launch 96 agriculture knowledge centres and 93 agriculture development offices, further reinforcing support for the agricultural community.
These initiatives are part of a broader effort by the Assam Government to ensure the comprehensive welfare of farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices across the state.
