Rajnath Singh’s Empowering Sikkim Visit: Unyielding Security with No-Drone Zones Enforced
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Sikkim, coinciding with the government’s decision to establish no-drone zones in Gangtok City, Sherathang, and Burdang from October 8 to 12, 2024. The Sikkim government announced these restrictions ahead of a High Delegation Conference of the Indian Army, set for October 10-12 at the Gangtok Military Station. This move is intended to ensure the safety and security of Singh, alongside other high-ranking officials and dignitaries expected to attend the conference.
The notification clarifies, “With the approval of the competent authority, all concerned individuals are informed that Gangtok City, Sherathang, and Burdang are declared No-Drone/Aeromodel Flying Zones from October 8 to 12, 2024, on account of the High Delegation Conference.” This measure aims to maintain a secure environment throughout the event, particularly given the strategic significance of Sikkim, which shares a border with China.
Singh’s visit is not only focused on attending the conference but also on uplifting the spirits of Indian troops stationed along the Indo-China border. He plans to join Indian Army soldiers in celebrating Dussehra in a high-altitude border area, where he will also perform the traditional ‘Shastra Puja,’ or worship of weapons. This gesture underscores the Defence Minister’s commitment to support and boost the morale of troops deployed in challenging conditions.
The visit takes on additional significance with weather forecasts predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the region over the coming days, potentially impacting logistics and security arrangements.
As tensions along the India-China border persist, Singh’s visit and the accompanying security measures emphasize India’s dedication to protecting its territorial integrity, while also addressing the welfare of its armed forces in sensitive areas.
