Chennai is poised to host a grand airshow at Marina Beach today, celebrating the 92nd Air Force Day and marking the first such event in South India. The Indian Air Force (IAF) will showcase an impressive aerial display with 72 aircraft, including Rafale, Tejas, and Sukhoi 30 MKI. Notably, the Sarang helicopter display team and Surya Kiran aerobatic team will dazzle audiences. This year’s theme, “Bhartiya Vayu Sena – Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar,” emphasizes the IAF’s potency, power, and self-reliance.
In preparations, the Greater Chennai Police have deployed 6,500 officers and 1,500 home guards to ensure the event’s smooth execution. Visuals from Marina Beach capture policemen overseeing arrangements as the stage sets for the anticipated aerobatic display. Meanwhile, IAF aircraft will take off from bases in Tambaram, Thanjavur, Sulur, and Bengaluru.
The airshow will feature demonstrations by the Indian Air Force Garud Commandos highlighting their strength and preparedness. Distinguished guests include Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, and various Tamil Nadu ministers and senior air force officers. The two-hour event, available for live streaming on Doordarshan’s YouTube channels, concludes at 1:00 pm.
This airshow marks only the third Air Force Day celebration held outside Delhi, signifying a significant milestone in celebrating Indian air prowess nationwide.
