Shocking Resignation: ACAUT Convenor Steps Down, Leaving Nagaland in Suspense | MorungExpress
DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 5 (MExN): Tia Longchar, the Convenor of Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT), announced his resignation from the organization, citing ideological differences and the fulfillment of ACAUT’s primary goals. Longchar stated that over his eleven-year tenure with ACAUT, despite personal shortcomings, he has fully committed himself to this transformative movement aimed at driving change within Naga society. He acknowledged the crucial life lessons gained throughout his journey and recognized that it was time to part ways with the organization, especially as ACAUT has nearly accomplished its mission of raising public awareness against oppression and corruption.
In his press note, Longchar reflected on ACAUT’s significant achievements, including promoting public awareness through initiatives like Right To Information (RTIs) and Public Interest Litigations (PILs). These efforts have been pivotal in highlighting widespread corruption and advocating for resolution of the ongoing Indo-Naga political issue. He recalled the impactful October 31, 2013 rally that popularized the slogan “One Government One Tax,” which still resonates with Nagaland’s populace.
Further notable accomplishments include ACAUT’s collaboration with the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) and Public Action Committee (PAC) in challenging illegal taxation, ultimately leading to the dissolution of check gates by the Governor of Nagaland in May 2022. The movement has also been instrumental in urging the Indian government to accelerate political negotiations with Naga Political Groups (NPGs).
Longchar emphasized that his decision to resign was made independently, expressing gratitude for the trust bestowed upon him and the opportunity to steer the movement. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in ACAUT’s history while underscoring the organization’s considerable impact in promoting transparency and justice in Nagaland.
