Celebrating Victory: BTR CEM Pramod Bodo Applauds Classical Status for Assamese Language
During a significant membership drive held on Saturday in Bonorgaon, Kokrajhar, over 1,100 individuals officially joined the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL). Organized by the UPPL’s Bonorgaon Block Committee, the event marked a substantial influx of new members from various groups, highlighting the party’s increasing support.
Prominent figures, including Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Chief Executive Member and UPPL president Promod Boro, welcomed 1,174 new members. This development is seen as a boost to the UPPL’s growing influence and presence in the region.
Speaking to reporters post-ceremony, Promod Boro criticized the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) for misleading the public—a factor he claimed was driving people towards the UPPL. Confident in the party’s rising popularity, Boro predicted a significant boost in UPPL’s influence across the 40 constituencies of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), expecting support levels to reach 60-70% soon.
On a cultural note, Boro expressed his congratulations on Assamese being recognized as a Classical Language of India, acknowledging the relentless efforts of researchers, scholars, and linguists behind this achievement. He noted that this recognition could serve as a catalyst for similar initiatives for other regional languages, expressing optimism that the Bodo language might achieve similar recognition with sustained preservation efforts.
The event underscored the UPPL’s growing political strength and celebrated the monumental acknowledgment of the Assamese language, marking a pivotal moment in Assam’s linguistic and political narrative.
