Tragic Cracker Factory Blast in UP Claims 2 More Lives, Death Toll Soars to 5
Two more fatalities have been reported following a blast on Wednesday in a firecracker manufacturing unit located in the Sirauli Police Station area. The explosion, which occurred at around 4 pm, initially claimed three lives and inflicted injuries on several others, ultimately leading to further deaths. The blast also caused damage to nearby buildings.
In response, Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya took decisive action, suspending four policemen, namely Sub-inspectors Deshraj Singh and Nahar Singh, as well as constables Ajay and Surendra. The Station House Officer, Ravi Kumar, was removed from his post and assigned to Police Lines. Moreover, a probe has been initiated against Circle Officer Gaurav Singh. The investigation revealed that Nasir, the operator of the firecracker unit, possessed a licence for a different location, raising concerns about the legality of the operation.
IG Rakesh Singh confirmed that the house where the blast occurred belonged to Nasir’s in-laws. Authorities are scrutinizing the licence details carefully. Meanwhile, remains of locally-made crackers were found at the site, supporting the preliminary cause identified by SSP Arya, who ruled out any deliberate sabotage.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his condolences to the bereaved families and instructed officials to provide necessary medical treatment to the injured. As the police continue to verify the firecracker unit’s licence, further investigations are underway to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents.
