Unlock the Magic of Navratri 2024 Day 1: Discover the Auspicious Colour, Timely Pujas, and Essential Details for an Unforgettable Celebration
The spirited nine-day festival honoring Goddess Durga is set to commence on Thursday, October 3. The festival, marked by overnight celebrations, fasting, and cultural gatherings such as garba, sees each day dedicated to a different form of Goddess Durga, also known as ‘Aadishakti’. The opening day, Navratri Day 1, is devoted to Goddess Maa Shilaputri, revered as the mountain daughter. The name Shilaputri combines the Sanskrit words ‘shil’ meaning rock, and ‘Putri’ meaning daughter. Renowned for exuding positivity and light, Maa Shailputri rides a bull (Nandi) and bears a trident and lotus, with a moon adorned on her forehead.
Navratri Day 1 festivities will kick off early on Thursday morning with the Ghatasthapana Muhurat (kalash) from 6:30 am to 7:31 am. The Abhijit Muhurat will follow from 12:03 pm to 12:51 pm. The auspicious color for the first day is Orange, chosen based on the day of the week when the festival begins. The colors for the remaining days of Navratri will be decided accordingly.
Maa Shilaputri, who oversees the moon and brings fortune to her devotees, is one of the many forms of Aadishakti and is also known by other names such as Hemavati and Parvati. She is celebrated for her power to nullify the malefic effects of the moon in one’s horoscope.
