Stock Market LIVE Updates: Indian Indices Rise on Wall Street Gains

Indian benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 opened higher, driven by overnight gains on Wall Street. At market open, the Sensex stood at 84,429.72, up 129.94 points (0.15%), while Nifty 50 was at 25,857.30, up 46.45 points (0.18%).
In a mixed start, eight of the 30 Sensex stocks opened in the red, led by Asian Paint (-0.99%), followed by JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Titan Company, and Hindustan Unilever. Conversely, Tech Mahindra (+2.51%), Mahindra & Mahindra, Larsen & Toubro, Infosys, and Wipro were the top gainers on Nifty 50.
Major sectoral indices, including Nifty Bank, Financial Services, Auto, Consumer Durables, and Oil & Gas, were trading positively, led by the IT sector up 0.89%. The Metal index was down 0.40%, followed by FMCG, Health, and Pharma. Broader markets also saw gains, with BSE SmallCap rising 0.35% and BSE MidCap up 0.14%.
On Monday, the indices had closed in the negative territory, with the Sensex down by 1,272.07 points (1.49%) and the Nifty 50 falling by 368.10 points (1.41%). Broader markets also declined, alongside a surge in the fear index, India VIX, which closed at 12.79.
Starting today, new transaction charges by NSE and BSE are effective, per SEBI directives, alongside an increase in Securities Transaction Tax (STT).
In Asia-Pacific, markets showed mixed responses following Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s comments. While Japan’s Nikkei 225 surged by 1.73%, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell by 0.47%.
Globally, the MSCI’s global equities index dropped 0.21%, and the dollar index climbed. In commodities, Brent crude saw its largest quarterly drop in a year, and gold prices dipped after recent rallies.
