Shocking Seizure: Meghalaya BSF Nabs Goods Worth Rs 43 Lakh in East Khasi Hills, Five Indians Detained
The 193rd Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) in Meghalaya has apprehended five Indian nationals transporting edible items worth approximately Rs 43 lakh at the Ranikor-Dangar T-junction in East Khasi Hills district. Acting on specific intelligence, BSF personnel intercepted a truck and a bus en route from Shillong towards the border area. The drivers failed to produce valid documentation for both the vehicles and the items they were carrying, leading to the confiscation of the goods and the detention of the individuals.
The apprehended nationals, along with the seized vehicles and items, were handed over to the Dangar Police Outpost for further action. This operation underscores the BSF’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal smuggling activities, particularly in the East Khasi Hills, which share a porous border with Bangladesh.
In a similar earlier operation, the 193rd Battalion of the Meghalaya BSF seized a large quantity of edible items and Nasiruddin Biri, a type of local cigarette, valued at over Rs 13.37 lakh from the international border in the same district. Acting on concrete intelligence, BSF troops successfully intercepted these goods, which were reportedly being smuggled into Bangladesh.
These continuous operations highlight the BSF’s commitment to curbing smuggling activities in border areas, ensuring the safety and security of the region.
