Shocking Scandal: Star Hall Project Halted for Major Construction Rule Violations
Star Hall Project Sealed Over Construction Violations
Kunal Rai, Gangtok: Authorities in Gangtok have sealed the under-construction Star Hall mall project in New Market due to alleged violations of the Sikkim Building Construction Regulations, 1991. The sealing notice was issued by the Gangtok district magistrate following a memo from the Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) dated July 2.
The GMC, acting as the urban regulatory authority, had previously notified the Star Mall project contractor of the violations. Despite issuing stop orders on three separate occasions between September 2023 and April 2024, the contractor continued construction, disregarding regulatory directives.
On Wednesday morning, a team comprising officials from the Gangtok district administration, led by the Gangtok SDM and SDPO, along with Urban Development and GMC officials, arrived at the site and executed the sealing action.
This move marks a significant step in the GMC’s ongoing efforts to enforce construction norms. In previous instances, the GMC has issued stop orders to other projects citing various irregularities, which were usually resolved, allowing construction to proceed. However, the Star Mall project has faced severe punitive measures due to repeated non-compliance and ignorance of official orders.
The State government and concerned authorities emphasize their commitment to safeguarding public interest by strictly enforcing building regulations and other rules. The sealing of the Star Mall project underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are addressing issues of regulatory non-compliance in construction activities.
