Guwahati: Police Apprehend Four in Pamohi Robbery, One Suspect Still at Large
In a significant breakthrough, Guwahati police have arrested four individuals in connection with a robbery that occurred on the night of 25 September in the Deochotal locality of Pamohi in Gorchuk. The arrested suspects are Dulal Dutta, aka Chandan (35) from Changsari, Kamrup; Prasanta Kalita (36) from Morigaon; Kartik Kalita (30) from Basistha in Kamrup Metropolitan; and Monuranjan Boruah (28) from North Guwahati in Kamrup. However, one suspect still remains at large.
During the investigation, authorities recovered one pistol magazine with five rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition at the crime scene. Additionally, a Honda scooty with registration number AS 01 BQ 6443, belonging to Dulal Dutta, was seized. Among the personal effects found with Dutta were money receipt books of Lachit Sena Thalagiri, Assam.
Further searches led to the discovery of two factory-made pistols, one without a magazine and another marked “ITALY MADE No. 1972,” a pistol magazine, and four rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition in a Mahindra Scorpio, bearing the registration number AS 01 FM 2177, owned by Prasanta Kalita. The stolen steel trunk containing cash, important documents, and a mobile phone was also recovered.
The incident was initially reported to Gorchuk Police Station, detailing that three unknown armed men had broken into a dump yard residence, assaulted the inhabitants, and fled with the stolen trunk in a white vehicle. A loaded magazine was discovered on the premises, reportedly dropped by one of the culprits during the robbery.
The case has been registered under Gorchuk PS Case No. 300/24 u/s 331(6)/309(4) BNS, 2023 r/w Sec 25 (1A) of the Arms Act, 1959. The police investigation continues as they pursue the remaining suspect.
