Transforming Eloor: From Waste Dumps to Lush Gardens – A Remarkable Rebirth
In a bid to curb illegal waste dumping, Eloor municipality has initiated a project to transform waste dump spots into flower gardens. Areas near Companypady, Hindustan Insecticides Ltd, Travancore Cochin Chemicals Ltd, Pathalam, and near the FACT market are now blooming with flowers. Supported by the Suchitwa Mission, which allocated around ₹7 lakh for this initiative, the project aims to create public awareness about maintaining cleanliness.
Municipal Chairperson A. D. Sujil emphasized that strict measures will be taken against those violating waste management norms. Wall graffiti highlighting the dangers of illegal dumping and urging public cooperation have been set up across various wards. Additionally, CCTV cameras have been installed at key locations to monitor waste disposal activities.
The efforts also include publicizing the services of Haritha Karma Sena volunteers, who have been actively collecting non-biodegradable waste from doorsteps. The authorities are promoting the use of eco-friendly utensils available for rent from green volunteers instead of plastic for public events, further encouraging sustainable practices.
