Fiery BJP Youth Wing Protest Erupts Against Kharge’s Objection to Crucial Semiconductor Plant in Assam
BJP’s young wing activists launched a protest on September 28 against Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge’s alleged objections to setting up a semiconductor plant in Assam. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) members from Guwahati marched toward the Assam Congress office to stage a demonstration in front of the headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan. Security forces prevented the activists from entering the premises.
The protestors displayed placards and chanted slogans against Kharge and the Congress. The controversy stems from Kharge’s interview, where he claimed semiconductor units are being established in Gujarat and Assam using “political clout,” despite a lack of necessary skills and innovation ecosystems in these states. Kharge suggested Karnataka, with 70% of India’s chip designing talent, would be a more appropriate location.
BJYM leaders demanded the Assam Congress clarify its stance on Kharge’s remarks, labeling the Congress as historically opposed to Assam’s interests. They also sought clarification from Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on the issue. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized Kharge’s comments, accusing the Congress of opposing Assam’s development. Sarma called for Assam Congress leaders to reject Kharge’s divisive statements.
The Tata Group is set to invest Rs 26,000 crore in a semiconductor plant in Jagiroad, Morigaon district, Assam.
