Priyanka Gandhi Slams Modi Govt’s Crushing Taxes on J&K: Outrage Mounts
Jammu: Priyanka Gandhi Critiques PM Modi’s Governance at Bishnah Rally
Jammu, September 28 (IANS) — Addressing her first Congress rally in Jammu’s Bishnah constituency ahead of the state assembly elections, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra launched a scathing critique of the Narendra Modi-led government. She accused the administration of imposing burdensome policies such as property tax, toll tax, and smart meters on the people of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
Priyanka Gandhi highlighted the disconnection between the central government and the local populace, accusing the administration of ruling J&K via remote control through the Lieutenant Governor. She also emphasized her personal and historical ties to the region, reinforcing her connection beyond mere politics.
"People of J&K have lost their statehood, and PM Modi compensates by showcasing infrastructure like a bridge taller than the Eiffel Tower, built on your land. Meanwhile, these taxes only add to your burdens," she told the gathering.
Due to adverse weather, Gandhi’s helicopter couldn’t land in Billawar, Kathua district, as scheduled. However, she remained focused on addressing local grievances and slamming the government’s policies that she claimed prioritize outsiders over local interests.
"Our youth are in dire need of employment," she said, arguing that the Lieutenant Governor’s administration works more for outsiders than for J&K residents. "Tenders and contracts are being awarded to external entities, sidelining local businesses and diminishing opportunities for our youth."
She also pointed out the high cost locals face when purchasing materials like sand, which is excavated from J&K and sent outside only to be sold back at inflated prices. "All policies seem designed to benefit those from outside, leaving our small businesses and local economy to suffer."
Gandhi ended her address by championing Neeraj Kundal, the Congress candidate from Bishnah, urging constituents to vote for him. "He has always stood up for you, and now he needs your support."
Priyanka Gandhi’s rally marks an intensified campaign effort, positioning the Congress as a defender of local interests against the backdrop of what she described as an outsized external influence on J&K governance.
