Unjust Ban on Nagaland Entry Sparks Outrage | MorungExpress
Shankaracharya Maharaj Prevented from Entering Nagaland, Deems It "Injustice"
Dimapur, September 27 (MExN): In a significant incident, Nagaland state government officials barred Jagadguru Shankaracharya Maharaj and five of his disciples from exiting the Dimapur airport terminal. This comes amid the planned stopover of the Gau Dhwaj Sthapana Bharat Yatra, a nationwide tour advocating for the cow flag, scheduled for September 26. The halt has drawn criticism from Shankaracharya Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati ‘1008’, who has termed the ban as "injustice."
According to a press release from the Yatra’s Media in-charge, Shailendra Yogiraj, the Maharaj and his team were informed of a “prohibitory order” issued by the Government of Nagaland. “Pujyapad Shankaracharya Maharaj pointed out that we neither opposed Nagaland’s culture, government, nor its citizens, nor did we speak about any form of separation. So, on what grounds are we not allowed to visit?” queried the Media in-charge.
The statement further questioned the Nagaland government’s rationale for blocking their entry. Undeterred, Shankaracharya Ji Maharaj reiterated his resolve by symbolically hoisting the cow flag on Nagaland soil. As per the release, he also recorded a 10-minute video message for Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, reaffirming his stance that the cow should be declared the mother of the nation.
Moreover, the release claimed that hundreds of local Bhagwad devotees in Nagaland supported Shankaracharya Ji’s cause through personal messages and calls but refrained from public support due to fear for their safety.
This contentious episode underscores a clash of ideologies and raises pertinent questions about freedom of movement and expression within the country. The situation remains dynamic as both parties stand firm on their stances.
