Significant Development in Northeast India Highlighted at CPA Annual Conference
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasized the remarkable development progress in Northeast India during his address at the Annual Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), India Region Zone-3, held in Aizawl, Mizoram. Birla pointed out that recent years have seen a substantial shift in the region, driven by the construction of railway lines, roads, and enhanced air connectivity, all crucial for economic growth.
Birla underscored the significant transformation in the Northeast, which has transitioned from a marginal area to a leading region due to increased physical, digital, and social connectivity. He noted that the Northeast plays a pivotal role in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for national development.
The two-day CPA conference, which concludes on Saturday, saw attendance from notable dignitaries, including Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh, Nagaland Assembly Speaker and CPA Zone-3 Chairman Sharingain Longkumer, Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma, and Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalbiakzama, among others from within and outside the state.
Addressing the conference theme, “Democratic sanctity, transparency, accountability, and results from democracy,” Birla remarked that the integrity and openness of legislative bodies are fundamental to strengthening democracy and increasing public trust in democratic institutions. He further commented that the dignified conduct of legislative members is essential for the efficient functioning of these bodies.
Birla called on elected representatives to utilize legislative platforms to seek solutions to public issues, reinforcing the role of democracy in addressing the needs of the people.
