Assam: 12 Cattle Found in Number Plateless Pickup Van in Raha, 2 Held
Local residents in Assam’s Raha intercepted a Bolero pickup van carrying 12 cattle at Phulguri on suspicion of illegal cattle transportation, while the vehicle was travelling towards Guwahati along the national highway.
According to initial reports, the pickup van was travelling without a number plate, raising suspicion among local residents. The residents stopped the vehicle and allegedly assaulted the driver and his assistant before handing both men over to the Raha Police.
The driver was identified as Dildar Hussain, while his assistant was identified as Asadul Islam. The two men were reportedly ferrying the 12 cattle towards Guwahati when they were intercepted.
The circumstances surrounding the transportation, including the source of the cattle and the legality of their movement, have not yet been established. It remains unclear whether the necessary permits and documentation for the transportation of the animals were in order.
Raha Police took custody of the two men, as well as the vehicle, following the incident. Further details regarding the investigation and any legal action against the men were not immediately available at the time of reporting.
The incident comes amid ongoing concerns over suspected illegal cattle transportation in Assam, an issue that has repeatedly drawn attention across the state in recent years. Authorities have previously emphasised the need for proper documentation and verification when transporting cattle through the region.
It is important to note that the allegations in this case are yet to be established through a police investigation, and the detained men have not been proven to have committed any offence at this stage.
