Budgam Encounter: Army Kills LeT Terrorist in Fierce Yousmarg Gunfight
The Indian Army killed a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist during a fierce gunfight with security forces in the higher reaches of Budgam district in central Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said. The encounter took place in the Korag area of Yousmarg during a joint search operation by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Srinagar-based Central Reserve Police Force, launched following specific intelligence.
Troops searching the area noticed suspicious activity and challenged the suspected terrorists, who responded by opening fire. Security forces returned fire, and one LeT member was killed in the exchange, the Army said.
The operation continued after the terrorist was neutralised, with personnel searching surrounding areas for any other militants. In a post on X, the Army’s Chinar Corps said troops had encountered suspicious activity while conducting the joint operation in the general area of Korag.
The Army had not released the killed terrorist’s identity or confirmed whether weapons and other material were recovered from the site. The encounter came weeks after another terrorist, identified as Yasir, was killed in the Yousmarg area earlier this month.
