New Delhi, September 29 (IANS): Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia launched the trailer of the documentary series “The Enchanting 8: A Culinary Journey Through the Northeast” in New Delhi on Tuesday. The series will present the region’s diverse food traditions, communities and cultural heritage to a wider national audience through authentic stories and experiences.
Supported by the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) and the North Eastern Council, the documentary takes viewers on a food-led journey across all eight Northeastern states. It highlights locally available ingredients, indigenous knowledge and the everyday practices that shape the region’s cuisine, while avoiding the portrayal of the Northeast as having a single culinary identity.
The production team interacted with local communities and food producers to trace native ingredients from their origins to kitchens and dining tables. These conversations and experiences form an important part of the narrative, which foregrounds local voices, traditions and the people who prepare and share the region’s food.
Although cuisine remains central, the series also explores Northeast India’s arts, culture and landscapes, placing its food traditions within the broader social and cultural contexts in which they have evolved.
The trailer launch was organised by MDoNER and attended by Minister of State Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, senior ministry officials and members of the production team. The project has been implemented through the North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society and produced by Urban Media Productions in association with Filandering Forker Media.
